A travel duo have offered a glimpse into what they describe as one of the “world’s most beautiful villages” – a mountainous haven home to fewer than 700 residents.

Scott and Collette (@roamaroo) regularly share their family adventures on Instagram with their latest trip taking them to France where they spent three nights soaking up the stunning surroundings. Captioning their clip, they penned: “Less than 700 people live in this tiny town in the heart of the Regional Natural Park of the Verdon – Moustiers-Sainte-Marie.”

The pair went on to detail it’s location: “Situated as the perfect jumping off point to the Grand Canyon of France (Gorges du Verdon), it is officially known as one of the most beautiful villages in France. Located in southern France, it’s only two hours from Nice and less than two hours from Marseille.”

The video of their “little slice of heaven” begins with Collette joking her husband had questionned why they would want to spend time in what is “just a little town in the mountains”. However, after recording their journey by road, their video continued with views of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie’s streets and drone footage from above the terrain.

Built on a limestone cliff, the settlement has been a centre for pottery trade for centuries, whilst a natural spring flowing out of the cliff creates a waterfall, which in turn provides water power.

After watching Collette and Scott showcase the cobbled streets, amenities and water activities the location has to offer, one Instagram user gushed: “The Verdon is one of the most beautiful places in France. I spent my summers teaching rowing there.

“When I move back to France, that is where I will move. South of France’s best secrets – people go to St Tropez and have no idea that the lake is only 1 hour away.”

“We went here last summer and it was just perfection!” hailed a another. A third recalled: “We bought a set of dishes here several years ago that make me so so happy every time I use them and remind me of our time in France. So magical.” Whilst a fourth felt inspire: “Wow! I definitely want to go back to the south of France with warmer weather.”

Others, however, hit out at the “influencer” couple for potentially attracting more visitors to the area. “For the love of goodness, stop posting this kind of content,” one person cursed. “You find a lovely quiet little town and your first thought is ‘how can I broadcast this to as many people as possible’ so it’s overrun next time I go?”

A local agreed: “Please don’t advertise it too much, it’s still a calm and peaceful (and absolutely magnificent) place that still is enjoyable without masses of tourists.” Whilst a third concurred: “Lots of hidden gems around that place. I was there a few months ago mid summer. NO tourists. Let’s keep it that way.”
